House of Seiko is pleased to debut at Independent with a two-person presentation of work by Steve Kahn (1943–2018) and Salvatore Pione (b. 1995), examining the body as a site shaped by restraint, exposure, and negotiated boundaries. Though materially and historically distinct, both artists approach these conditions as generative, revealing psychological tension through space and surface.

Pione’s practice centers on reimagined, patinated materials—wood and steel worked through labor-intensive processes that echo the weathered architecture of his native Sicily. Drawing from memory and local tradition, his sculptures carry a sense of endurance where the grotesque and the poetic coexist. These timeworn forms find a natural dialogue with Kahn’s Hollywood Suites (1974–79), in which motel and apartment interiors are articulated through mirrors, thresholds, and shifting light. Where Kahn evokes presence through absence, shaped by those who have just passed through, Pione treats surface as a site of accumulation and trace.
